Acne care in Oshiwara, Andheri West

Acne and Acne Scar Treatment in Andheri West

Youthville Clinic, a dermatologist-led skin clinic in Oshiwara, Andheri West, treats active acne and acne scars. Dr. Shruti Chavan assesses your skin first, works out what is driving your breakouts, and then builds a plan that can combine prescription treatment, in-clinic procedures and follow-up visits. The clinic is open on Sundays.

Most people who come to us for acne have already tried a lot. A new face wash, a cream a friend swore by, maybe a course of tablets that worked for a while and then stopped. It's frustrating. It's also very common, and it doesn't mean you've been doing something wrong. Acne is a medical skin condition, and it tends to respond much better once the type of acne has been properly identified. If yours seems to keep coming back, that's usually the reason. This page covers what we treat, how a visit works, what results to realistically expect, and how to find us on New Link Road.

Why see a dermatologist for acne?

A dermatologist can tell which type of acne you have, and that decides the treatment. Blackheads, hormonal breakouts along the jawline and deep, painful cysts each need a different approach. Treating acne properly and early also lowers your risk of scarring, which is far harder to fix than the acne itself.

Mild acne, with a few blackheads or the odd pimple, can often be managed with the right over-the-counter products. It's worth booking a consultation when breakouts are painful or sit deep under the skin, when they leave marks or dents behind, or when you've used a product properly for two to three months without much change.

One more thing. Squeezing and picking pimples increases inflammation, and more inflammation means a higher chance of a scar. We know it's hard to stop. It's one of the first things we'll talk about.

Acne concerns we treat in Andheri West

Acne isn't one condition with one fix. Here's how the common types usually look and what they generally mean. Your dermatologist will confirm which ones apply to you.

What you notice

What it usually is

How it is often approached

Small dark dots or white bumps, mostly on the nose, forehead and chin

Blackheads and whiteheads (comedonal acne), caused by clogged pores

Prescription creams, sometimes chemical peels or professional extraction

Red, tender pimples, some with pus

Inflammatory acne (papules and pustules)

Prescription creams, sometimes a short course of oral medicine

Deep, painful lumps that last for weeks

Nodular or cystic acne

Needs a dermatologist early. Often oral treatment. Highest risk of scarring

Breakouts on the chin and jawline, often worse before periods

Hormonal acne, common in adult women

May include a hormonal assessment and targeted treatment

Pimples on the back, chest or shoulders

Body acne

Medicated washes, creams and sometimes oral treatment

Flat brown or dark patches after pimples heal

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, usually called acne marks

Prescription creams, sun protection, sometimes peels

Dents, pits or raised bumps in the skin

Acne scars

Procedures matched to the scar type, once acne is controlled

Plenty of people have more than one of these at once. Someone in their thirties might have hormonal breakouts on the jaw, dark marks on the cheeks from last year and a few shallow scars from their teens. That's normal, and it's exactly why a single product rarely sorts everything out.

Acne marks vs acne scars: what's the difference?

Acne marks are flat. They are brown, dark or reddish patches left after a pimple heals, and the skin surface stays smooth. Acne scars change the texture of the skin, leaving dips, pits or raised bumps. Marks often fade over months with the right care and sun protection. True scars usually need in-clinic procedures to improve.

Indian skin tends to hold on to dark marks for longer, because darker skin tones respond to inflammation by making more pigment. The upside is that marks are usually easier to treat than scars. The catch is that an overly aggressive procedure can trigger fresh dark patches, so the choice of treatment, and its strength, matters a lot.

How acne treatment works at our clinic

Every plan is personal, but it usually follows three steps.

STEP 1

Consultation and skin assessment

Dr. Chavan will examine your skin and ask how long the acne has been there, what makes it better or worse, what you've already tried, and what you're currently putting on your face and hair. For women, questions about periods and other hormonal symptoms are part of this, because they can point to a hormonal cause. Bringing your current products, or photos of the labels, saves a lot of guesswork.

STEP 2

A treatment plan matched to your acne

STEP 3

Follow-up and maintenance

This is the part people skip, and it's where a lot of acne treatment falls apart. Most prescription treatments need around two to three months to show a clear difference, and some creams make the skin drier, or even a little worse, for the first few weeks before it settles. Follow-up visits let us adjust the plan as your skin responds. Once you're clear, a simple maintenance routine helps keep it that way.

Acne scar treatment in Andheri West

Acne scar treatment begins once active acne is under control, because new breakouts can leave new scars. The dermatologist then identifies your scar types and matches a procedure to each one. Ice pick, boxcar and rolling scars respond to different techniques, so most people need a combination of treatments over several sessions.

Scar type

What it looks like

Options a dermatologist may consider

Ice pick

Narrow, deep pits, a bit like a large open pore

Boxcar

Wider dents with sharp, defined edges

Rolling

Wavy, uneven skin caused by bands of tissue under the surface

Raised (hypertrophic)

Firm bumps that sit above the skin surface

Dark marks (not true scars)

Flat brown or dark patches

Chemical peels, prescription creams, strict sun protection

Here's the honest part. Acne scars can usually be made noticeably smoother and less visible, but they're rarely erased completely. Results vary from person to person, depending on scar depth, skin type and how your skin heals. We'd rather set realistic expectations at the start than disappoint you halfway through a course.

Before you start: suitability, side effects, timing and cost

Who may not be suitable for certain treatments

Knowing when a treatment isn't right matters as much as knowing when it is. Your dermatologist may change or delay your plan if you:

โ€ข are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, since several acne medicines and some procedures aren't safe at these times

โ€ข have an active skin infection, cold sores or open wounds in the area to be treated

โ€ข have recently taken isotretinoin, as certain procedures may need to wait

โ€ข tend to form raised or keloid scars

โ€ข have a fresh tan or sunburn, which raises the risk of dark patches after peels and lasers

โ€ข have another skin condition, such as eczema, that is currently flaring

That isn't a complete list. It's one of the main reasons a proper consultation always comes before any procedure.

Side effects and recovery

Prescription creams commonly cause dryness, peeling and mild redness, especially in the first few weeks. These usually ease as your skin adjusts, and the strength or frequency can be changed if they don't.

Acne scar procedures can cause redness, swelling and some peeling for a few days, depending on the treatment. In Indian skin, temporary darkening after a procedure is a known risk, which is why sun protection before and after treatment isn't optional. Less commonly, infection or unwanted texture changes can occur. Your dermatologist will go through the specific risks of any procedure before you agree to it.

How long does treatment take?

For active acne, expect meaningful improvement after roughly two to three months of consistent treatment, with further gains after that. Acne often needs some ongoing maintenance, because the tendency to break out doesn't simply switch off.

Acne scar treatment is slower. Sessions are usually spaced a few weeks apart so the skin can heal and rebuild collagen in between, and improvement builds gradually over several months. The number of sessions depends on how many scars you have, how deep they are and which treatments are used.

Cost of acne and acne scar treatment in Andheri West

There isn't one fixed price, because two people with acne can need very different plans. Cost depends on the type and severity of your acne or scarring, whether you need prescription treatment only or in-clinic procedures as well, the number of sessions and any follow-up care.

When to book a consultation

See a dermatologist sooner rather than later if:

โ€ข you have deep, painful lumps or cysts

โ€ข your acne is leaving dents, pits or dark marks

โ€ข acne started suddenly as an adult, especially alongside irregular periods or unwanted hair growth

โ€ข breakouts began after starting a new medicine or supplement

โ€ข you've used an over-the-counter treatment for two to three months with little change

โ€ข acne is affecting your confidence, mood or daily life

That last one matters. Acne can take a real toll on how people feel about themselves, and that alone is a good enough reason to get it treated.

We also offer PRP and GFC, which are sometimes used alongside these procedures. The evidence behind them is still developing, so we'll tell you plainly whether we think they're likely to add anything for your skin.

For most people the foundation is a prescription treatment applied to the skin, such as a retinoid (a vitamin A based cream that helps unclog pores) or benzoyl peroxide. For moderate or stubborn acne, your dermatologist may add an oral medicine for a limited period. Some women with hormonal acne benefit from hormone-targeted treatment. Severe or scarring acne may need isotretinoin, a strong oral medicine that requires regular blood tests and must never be taken during pregnancy. In-clinic treatments such as chemical peels, anti-acne facials and LED light therapy can support this, alongside your home treatment rather than instead of it.

Once your skin has been assessed, your dermatologist will explain the options and what each is likely to cost, so you can decide what suits you. The consultation fee is Rs 1,500.
